The Helsinki studio recently announced it’s now expanding its portfolio after their debut game’s success

Congratulations to Metacore, who we’re proud to say are PlaytestCloud users, on the success of their debut game, Merge Mansion! After reaching 30m installs and $135m in revenue, based on Appmagic data, the studio will now expand its portfolio.

Metacore has used PlaytestCloud for early playtesting, specifically to find games that pass a certain retention threshold, determining then which ones the team should allocate time and resources to. It’s a perfect example of the importance of early playtesting, and how using players’ feedback can not only improve your games, but also help you determine which ones have the best chance of success. By focusing not just on testing games but also concepts, screenshots, and trying to determine what players want even before they have it, Metacore was able to scale and, now, expand. We’ve written about this before, and go deeper into the many importances of playtesting in a game’s development cycle in our Become a PlaytesCloud Pro blog series.

“We worked with the audience and we got constant data,” CEO and cofounder Mika Tammenkoski told mobilegamer.biz. “This became the backbone for the way we want to work – we are doing it with all of our other games and it’s the way we want to operate in the future.” Even Merge Mansion’s Grandma, who went viral on social media earlier this year, was the result of player testing. The game originally went out through Google Play Beta in 2020, before going global that same year.

The Helsinki-based studio was in the news more than once for getting a huge investment from Supercell, with both studios having developed a strong ongoing relationship, and also for partnering with the non-profit We In Games and others earlier in this year for the Better Games Together movement, hoping to create a more inclusive environment in the industry.

A quick snapshot of Merge Mansion

With Merge Mansion’s success, the team at Metacore is working on different games, using their early testing method to determine which ones to focus on. “The intention from day one has been to build a portfolio of games,” says Mika. “It’s important that we always have games in different stages of development, especially in the early stages.”

We’re proud of Metacore’s success, and to be a part of their story. As the company grows and expands, we can’t wait to see where they go next. Congratulations! Learn more about Metacore and our work together, or reach out to find out how we can help you achieve the same success.
